Project Description Country: Ghana Location: Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana Total Budget: $4,500 Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment Activity Type: Health: General Summary: This project is to supply a boat and motor to be used as an ambulance. The hospital in Half Assini needs a boat so nurses can cross the river to provide routine vaccination schedule. Now the only financially feasible transport is on market day and is not effective for vaccines. A boat would also serve as an ambulance, especially to take mothers in labor for maternity services at the hospital. The boats are built in town for about $1000 US and a 40 hp motor would be purchased in Ghana for about $3500 US. Dr. Gabriella Nanci, M.D. reports polio has been discovered in Ghana in two locations so this has added an additional level of need.
