Project Description

Country: Nepal

Location: Nepal

Total Budget: $8,525

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Community Development: Disaster Recovery

Summary: During the 2015 Earthquakes, many schools in Nepal were damaged and require rebuilding.

This project would rebuild the Shree Bak Secondary School damaged by the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal using materials supplied by the grant. On site management will be by our Rotarian and Rotaract partners in Nepal and labor by the villagers and families who have children attending the school. These are low income people who need assistance with materials but are eager to provide labor.

The Shree Bak government secondary school is located in Sulibhanjag, Golanjor a rural municipality in Nepal. There are 340 students in this school from grades kindergarten through tenth. The school consists of four large classrooms, each with a capacity of 80 students. Due to the earthquakes, the classrooms all have structural problems with the floors and roof. During the earthquakes, the old roof and its support system was cracked and now during the rainy season water enters inside the classrooms. This disturbs the students and teachers and is dangerous due to the cracks in the roof. The families of the students and villagers are requesting assistance for repair of the floors and to change the roof support beams and metal roof sheets.

Sudip Koirala, our Rotary contact in Nepal will manage this project with the help of Rotaract and Rotary members. We have completed over 50 successful projects with Sudip since 2009 and he is committed to ensuring completing of this project.
