The Goat Farming Project will help struggling families supplement their Income, Nutrition, better education and access to good health, with a donation of a pair of dairy goats. These goats are distributed in the pairs of two to families in need, and the milk they produce will supplement diary nutritional needs or sold to generate income. When the goats produce, their offspring are given to other Community members a "passing on the gift. This means families share the training they receive, and pass on the first female offspring of their livestock to another family This extends the impact of the original gift, allowing once the impoverished family to become
The beneficiaries of the Goat Farming Project, 40 families, women and children of Nakaswa, Kampala Uganda. The timeline of this project is 3 years, each goat would have multiplied and a pair of dairy goats given to families in need to boast their livelihood. The project funds will be used purchase 35 dairy goats raised on the 8 acreage land donated by the Community of Nakaswa desiring to develop their community. The cost of one dairy female is $150 and for the project to start we need at least 35 dairy female goats bringing the total cost to $5,625.
Based on our study, the following needs have been identified and believe with the introduction of the Dairy Goat Farming and the core model of giving a gift of the first pair of the dairy female goats, problems identified will be solved
Poverty, the best place for a child to grow up is a loving family. The Goat Farming Project is an income generating scheme, milk and meat can be sold to raise money for tuition and stable economic future and a better life for their children
Disease prevention and treatment. , women and children living with HIV AIDS should be able to afford the medical care they need due to income from selling dairy products like milk, yogurt and goat
Poor Nutrition leading poor maternal and child health. Participation in the goat farming project will increase mothers and their children access for better nutrition and livelihood.
Gender discrimination, the goat farming project will promote and empower gender equality by engaging all members of the community towards positive change allowing women to own assets and engage in business.
Lack of access to quality basic education, death of a family member leaving the marginalized groups including Orphans, Girls and disabled children without care of family. With the Goat Farming Project, we plan to empower the next of kin especially women to cherish their children instead of abandoning them due to poverty
Arlington Sunset Rotary members will be involved in decision making on how this grant money will be used, out of the 7 members that sit on Malaika Orphanage Children Foundation Board, 4 members of the Club are actively involved. Arlington Sunset members together with the Rotary Club of Bwebajja in Uganda will be involved in the execution of the Goat Farming Project 100%
