Summary: Reading books & activities for children & families in grades 1-3 in the Greenburgh School District


Young children need to be encouraged to read. Our Rotary Club will purchase carefully chosen picture books and create teacher/family activities for the classroom and families. This will encourage students to read and promote family interaction in the children's experience of reading. This will be done between October 2019 & May 2020. The club members will each read to one or more classes, give out the books and explain the activities. There are approx. 400 students in grades 1-3. the Grant and monies from the club will cover the cost of the books and the activity programs.

REVISION:

Because of the Covid-19 virus and the schools losing, we are unable to complete our project.We are converting the balance of the funds to a project with the Greenburgh Police Dept. and Feeding Westchester. The program will provide food to Seniors and needy children.

The project is ongoing. The school and our Rotary Club chose the books and they are being ordered. Plans are being made for a school assembly for the second and third graders to give them their books and information in December.

The main part of our project has been completed. We had money leftover and wanted to include the 4th grade in this project. Unfortunately, the schools are closed due to the virus and we haven't been able to complete this. Will the report deadline be extended due to the situation in the State?
