Project Description Country: USA Location: National City Total Budget: $1,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Backpacks filled with school supplies are distributed to students at three elementary schools. For years, Rotary Club National City and community leaders have joined forces with National City Police Department ((NCPD) to deliver backpacks filled with paper, pencils, binders and other supplies to (3) elementary schools in National City. Due to state budget cuts, some schools lack basic supplies, so Rotary fills donation boxes through out the year to help. Target, Walmart and several private organizations located in National City also donated. The distribution event was held in July where Rotarians pitched in and distributed the backpacks to lines of happy children.
