Our club has provided Scholarships to graduating seniors an an awards event each May for the students for decades and we now ask that the district assist us in matching funds.
We offer a Community Service Scholarship and a Scholarship for a student entering the teaching field, which is named after the spouse of a long time member. We offer scholarships each year and honor the winners at a dinner for the scholars at the Blue Sash Awards NHS scholars for that year.
We coordinate with the school resource counselor and college counselor to make that the scholarships are advertised to the students at El Camino High School, Oceanside, which is the largest high school in Oceanside with approximately 3,000 students.
We also provide an award and recognition at a Dinner awards event for awardees and the National Honor Society (NHS) members at El Camino High School for that senior year, which is plus or minus 20 students and their parents or guests each year. The Banquet allows these students of honor to receive recognition within the community and share this with their families.
We will continue to offer at least two $500 scholarships each year to offset the cost of tuition, books, supplies and living expenses and transportation for our students entering college studies.
Our Rotarian team of six interviewers meet with the Scholarship candidates to select the awardees each year in May. We require a minimum GPA in High School of 3.0 and attendance at a College or University on a full time basis. Students receiving the scholarship award will be required to submit expense documentation for the funds awarded
The NHS awards dinner banquet is held in late May of each year for qualified NHS candidates.
