Project Description Country: USA Location: La Mesa Total Budget: $3,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Peer Counceling Grossmont High School I called the Grossmont District Office and learned that Grossmont H.S. has only Peer Counceling program in the District. At Grossmont H.S. I have found that Kristina Santoro has been supportive of this program, and she is willing to work with our Rotary Club in helping many students. Grossmont H.S. has 2200 students, and the adult professionals cannot always develop an in depth relationship with each student. The Peer counselors are identified to all students. The Peer counselors are available at all times during the school day. The Peer counselors interact with students regarding bullying, substance abuse, home abuse, and other professional matters. It is my experience that often students will talk with other students in stead of talking professional; adults. The Peer counselors will be trained to make the appropriate referrals for students needing intervention. The school has been training students more than 20 years at Grossmont H.S. and it has been successful.
