Our club has an ongoing partnership with R.J. Wilson Elementary, a low income, multi-lingual school. To enhance learning experiences and skill development in multiple realms, school administrators and teachers have identified a need to increase their use of technology in the classroom. Studies show that students grow through the use of technology by being able to do research, discover information that they may never experience firsthand, and increase literacy and math development. Students at R.J. Wilson typically have limited hands-on learning opportunities using technology outside of school. Our project would be to purchase a set of 24 Chromebooks ($200 each), equipment that has already proven to be a useful tool in the school. Educators tell us increased access to Chromebooks would enable teachers to help more students increase knowledge, virtual experience, math and literacy skills. Equipment would be purchased within two weeks of receiving the funds, as we would relish the opportunity for these young students to begin using this equipment early in their school year. Our club will be involved: 1) purchase and distribution of the Chromebooks; 2) a quarterly assembly where we distribute rewards to students who have achieved A & B grades or who have demonstrated marked improvement in their grades from the prior grading period; and 3) periodic special projects. Note, attached photos are from recent club projects with R.J. Wilson and demonstrate our club's ongoing involvement.
