The city of Poway has increased rental rates for the Symphony, creating a $3300 shortfall. $2000 will come from this grant, (Club + District) and the $1300 balance comes from club member gifts and other club funding. The moneys will be applied to the May 2020 concert. Three members of the Symphony Board are Rancho Bernardo Club members; others help by making up shortfall donations, and many members attend the symphony performances. Overall, concerts benefit the 200,000 residents in the Poway Unified School District(PUSD).
The symphony is a class in the curriculum of the PUSD, and also benefits musicians of all ages, including current students. For the past fifteen years, the PSO has been providing a season of three concerts per year (November, March, and May). The PSO also brings in professional performers to supplement the core of student volunteers in accordance with the demands of the music. Over the past two years, the orchestra has drastically increased the quality of its performances, and audiences have grown substantially, with near capacity audiences.
