The Rotary Club of Chula Vista respectfully requests matching district grant funds of $4,000 in support of scholarships for 10 or more locally graduating high school seniors matriculating at a college/university of their choosing.
These scholarships are to offset the cost of tuition, textbooks and supplies, living expenses, transportation, and other costs associated with attending college. It should be noted that Chula Vista has a high proportion of families living at or below the poverty level (18.3%) compared to San Diego (14.0%), according to the 2016 Demographic Profiles report published in January 2018 by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency.
For more than 20 years, the Rotary Club of Chula Vista has annually awarded multiple scholarships to qualifying graduates of several Chula Vista-based high schools who desire to further their education. In 2018-19, the club awarded five $1,000 Bill Padelford Scholarships for Academic Achievement and five $1,000 Joe Rindone Scholarships for Community Service, a total of $10,000 to deserving high school graduates. The scholarships are named in honor of two Chula Vista Rotarians with illustrious careers in teaching and education administration.
Project timeline: May 2020.
Number of Rotarians Involved: Eight-plus on the scholarship application review committee, plus support from school guidance counselors representing multiple Chula Vista high schools.
