Project Description Country: USA Location: Denton, TX Total Budget: $2,672 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: The gift of school supplies and backpacks will give families in need a hand up as they prepare for going back to shcool The gift of school supplies and backpacks gives at-risk families a hand up as they prepare for going back to school. For additional information, the web site is dentonbacktoschool.org. It is a community wide collaborative project which combines the efforts of many nonprofit, civic, and community organizations. It was started by Interfaith Ministries in Denton with the help of our Rotary Club many years ago. It currently includes a health fair that provides health screenings, eye exams and free on-the-spot eyeglasses, hearing tests, etc. This project assists the most economically vulnerable children in the community. The project for back to school this year has been funded with backpacks and supplies to be distributed on August 10th. The requested funds would be used in May or June of 2020 to fund that years project. Our club supported the project at $1000 this year. With the grant, we can triple our contribution and increase the number of children served. Club members are involved through many of the other organizations that support this program. We raise funds for Rotary through our flag program and other fund raising efforts.
