Project Description

Country: Mexico

Location: Agua Prieta

Total Budget: $6,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Water: Supply/Access

Summary: Water project in Agua Prieta, MX to buy and install 1000 liter water tanks in homes without water.

Club Rotario of Agua Prieta has been our sister club for more than 10 years. We continue to support their expressed needs each year. We researched the success of a similar project we conducted in 2015-16 and discovered the water tanks installed then are in use at a 90% rate today. Therefore, we have determined the worth of expanding the project to purchase, deliver and in some cases, install 55 more 1,000 liter tanks to be distributed to 50 families, each with 5 - 6 family members, who are currently without drinking water. The Rotarian involvement will occur in January 2020 when our yearly service trip is conducted to Agua Prieta with 21 Steamboat Spring Rotarians (including 14 or 15 Interact students) as well as participation from the Rotary Club in Agua Prieta.

The completion of this project is delayed until our annual service trip to Agua Prieta in January 2021. The completion of the erection and installation of the water tanks was delayed due to inability to get the required steel in time for our planned trip in 2020 and has been further delayed by the pandemic challenges. It is expected that we will be able to spend all funds for a project completion in January 2021
