Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Homewood

Total Budget: $900

Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Activity Type: RI Youth Programs (Youth Exchange, RYLA, Rotaract, Interact)

Summary: A buddy bench is a special place in a school playground where a child can go when they want someone to talk to.

The concept behind the Buddy Bench, also called the Friendship Bench, is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. Our project will be in partnership with our Homewood Rotary and interact clubs and the Homewood school district to purchase an install a buddy bench at one of our local elementary schools.

Promoting peace, friendship and goodwill, this project will serve as a model of service above self and provide a permanent symbol of fellowship on a local elementary school playground.

Our timeline will begin this summer with the goal of completing the installation of our buddy bench prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

We will allocate $415 of our district grant monies for this project with the balance of funds raised by club members. The cost of each buddy bench is approximately $450 with another $250 budgeted for labor and installation. Rotarians will be asked to support the project through fundraising and help with the installation and dedication of the buddy bench this fall.

Have you decided what you'd like to do about the Buddy Bench budget?

I was able to update the Scholarship project so that the $500 grant allocation is matched by club cash. That one is good to sign off on.
