Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Ontario, Oregon

Total Budget: $2,100

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: The Club will deliver dictionaries to approximately 700 third graders in the Western Treasure Valley including both public and private schools.

According to the Dictionary Project, Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so the Club wants to give third graders this important tool. A dictionary is an essential tool for a quality education . A student cannot do his or her best without one.

Members of the Club will deliver dictionaries to third graders in the Western Treasure Valley (approximately 700 students) during the spring of 2020. We usually have 12 to 15 Rotarians participate in this project.

The project funds will help pay for the dictionaries ($3 per dictionary) as well as the Rotary labels. The labels contain the Rotary 4 way test. The labels are posted in the front page of each dictionary.

I have audited this project and I reject it. You need to comply with Ines Crespo's email dated 5/5/20. It states, in reviewing the final report for you grant it looks like you are a little over $500 under your projected budget. The required club funds on a $1,597.50 project is $462.50. You spent $197.50. In order to keep things fair among all clubs, we need to ask you to return $265 to the District. ($462.50 - $197.50). The club can keep the extra $235. You'll need to change your final report to reflect this.

A refund check for $265 was issued by the Club to the District on May 11. The Final Report "1" was added to the documents on 05/11/20; it reflected the $265 refund. i.e. the District contribution was reduced to $1135 (versus original amount of $1400); and Club contribution was increased from $197.50 to $462.50. The cancelled check will be added to the documents once it clears the bank.

Original Final Report added as reference. It reflects the original district match of $1400 and Club expenditure of $197.50. The Final Report "1" reflects the decreased District Match of $1135 as a result of the Club refunding $265 and the increased Club contribution o $462.50. The total expenditure in both reports is a total of $1597.50.
