Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Hastings, NE

Total Budget: $1,500

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Children with Special Health Needs working with CASA are high risk and may require specialized or adaptive toys to work through crisis or trauma. Hastings Sunrise Rotary will provide these unique toys through the CASA Toy Store.

Hastings Sunrise Rotary will team with the CASA Toy Store to provide toys and activities specific to Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN). In addition, local pediatric physical therapy specialists will be consulted for their recommendations and assistance.

CASA(Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a local non-profit organization which works with families and children involved in the court system. This toy store aims to replenish toys to children and families caught in transition, when their belongings needed to be left behind (fire, domestic violence, fire, new placements, etc.)

CSHCN are particularly vulnerable to changes and transitions as well as domestic violence and abuse. Toys are the children's work. Toys assist the children to work through trauma and crisis. CSHCN need special or adaptive toys to meet their developmental needs. These adapted toys are significantly more expensive and specific than traditional toys for children.
