Activity Type:
Community Development: Disaster Recovery
Summary: To provide financial support to the local Hot Meals USA organization along with Rotary volunteers.
Hot Meals USA is committed to bringing good hot safe meals to people in times of disasters. They staff their trailers with Serve Safe Certified cooks and chefs. The Kearney chapter had their first call for deployment on March 30, 2019 as a result of flooding in Nebraska on March 13 and 14. Several of our local Rotarians volunteered at the Hot Meals USA trailer when they were deployed to Gibbon, Nebraska on April 4, 2019, to serve the volunteer firefighters and thank them for their services to help those who had suffered from the flood. The trailer is still in need of finances to complete it to its specifications. Plus there is the need to purchase the food and fuel to continue to help those in need from disasters in our area from the March 2019 flooding. Long term the local Hot Meals USA trailer and volunteers will be able to be deployed anywhere in the United States when they are requested by FEMA or the American Red Cross. Hot Meals USA is a 501 C3 charity and 100% of the funds raised go to direct assistance to others.
