Summary: TeamMates Mentoring of Grand Island is celebrating 20 years of service and this grant will pay for an ad in the local newspaper to promote the program.

In April of 1999, TeamMates of Grand Island held a large Gala event for funding and recruiting mentors for the program. This year they are celebrating 20 years of mentoring. Their mission statement is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring. Over the last 20 years,TeamMates has served 628 matches, graduated 183 students, awarded $85,000 in Grand Island scholarships and $265,000 in state TeamMates scholarships. Over the 20 years, dozens of Rotarians have been mentors and board members. The newspaper ad will serve to honor mentors, mentees and supporters of the past 20 year; to recruit more mentors; educate people on the importance of mentoring and fundraise for the program.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

Update to project: After running the 1/2 page color advertisement of TeamMates of Grand Island celebration, over 200 letters were sent to past donors with the same information. These letters highlighted the work of the program and featured quotes from students who had been mentored and how it impacted their lives so propective volunteers could see how mentoring changes lives. The letter was also a fundraising tool and $4,300 was raised because of the 20 year campaign. Sunrise Rotary was a big part of that. The Grand Island Noon Rotary matched the cost of the 1/2 page ad and we were able to pubish it a second time. Celebrating, recruiting and fundraising were all achieved with the help of this grant from Rotary District 5630 and Grand Island Sunrise Rotary. Thank you.

A full color advertisement ran in the Independent on June 23rd paid for by this grant. This ad was in celebration of TeamMates 20th Anniversary. It served multiple purposes....acknowledgment of accomplishment, Rotary's involvement, recruiting more mentors and raising funds for the program. This ad cost $549. The remaining grant funds will be used to run another ad for mentor recruiting in July. A coy of the ad is in the photos section. The Sunrise Rotary has been billed for the advertisement.
