Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Alliance, Nebraska

Total Budget: $1,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: The Alliance Recreation Center's afterschool program needs new playground equipment for kids in K-5th grade in Alliance, Nebraska.

Our Rotary Club would like to support the Alliance Recreation Center's ARC Afterschool program for students ages K-5th grade. Our community has lacked an afterschool program for nearly a decade. With the start of this program, students in our community now have an opportunity to participate in quality afterschool programming, receive snacks and homework assistance, and engage in fun recreational activities to help build healthy minds, bodies, and habits. This program currently has 16 students enrolled, 38% of which receive financial assistance to attend the program. Their enrollment goal for the 2019-2020 school year is 30 students while maintaining a 30% financial assistance rate.

Our club would like to pledge $1,000.00 to help the Alliance Recreation Center secure playground equipment for this program. The ARC's full budget for this project is $15,000 and is seeking funding from other sources for support including United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte and Dawes Counties and Wells Fargo. The project will be a "community build" where volunteers will help assemble the equipment when it arrives.

The change in season had delayed the project. The ARC couldn't store the equipment through the winter. We anticipate a check presentation ceremony in April 2020.
