Provide Books to Students and other resources to Teachers at Cleveland School in Sioux Falls, SD
Actual Contact Sarah Sinnott
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Continuing to work with Cleveland Elementary from the 2016-2018 grant, we want to provide resources from the Collaborative Classroom curriculum and intervention resources to support students in literacy at Cleveland Elementary. During 2016-2018, Sioux Falls Rotary South provided books to students. During the new grant from 2018-2020, we want to help supply the school with intervention and supplemental literacy tools to help teachers and staff feel better equipped to instruct students and help close the literacy gap at a Title 1 school.

From Instructional Coach at Cleveland after first grant purchase-"Currently, we have 212 students receiving SIPPS 1st grade-5th grade. This number does NOT include the 14 groups that our SIPPS specialists run (1st-2nd).Our kindergarten teachers will also start groups in December.Currently, we have 6 students that are in a Being a Reader set 13 which was purchased by Rotary. Of the 218 SIPPS/BaR 13+ students, 58 students are receiving SIPPS or BaR instruction (from sets purchased by Rotary). An additional 11 students being added to the BaR number and 14 more within SIPPS by the winter break. That's roughly 83 students that are receiving reading instruction thanks to Rotary dollars!"

One thing that Mitch and I have talked about is the need for more appropriate text for students to read in their classrooms. We have lists of fluency readers and know that we'd like to enhance our selections in the library. This might be something we would lean on Rotary funds to help us with.I also anticipate that we will need to purchase a few more Challenge kits as we are transitioning from needing so many Beginning/Extension kits due to student progress."

Intervention materials were purchased and delivered, but due to Covid 19, we were unable to help unpack and prepare materials. Volunteers are not allowed in schools right now. We tried to reschedule but because school was starting, they were going to take care of it on their own.
