During the week the elementary school accumulates left over food from the free meals provided to the Title I children in the school. The extra food is then divided and put into bags for the children to take home over the weekend when free school meals are not available. This project will provide insulated bags for the children at school to take the extra food home. We will emboss the school name and provided by Rotary on the bags to encourage the children to learn responsibility and return the bags each Monday so they can be reused.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Upon further consultation with the school it was found that the insulated bags were not a viable project as many of the kids sanitary conditions are not very good. The school was concerned with lice and bed bugs being imported back to the school with the return of the insulated bags. A bigger need was to purchase a new washer and dryer to wash any clothes soiled during school so the students did not have to sit in soiled clothes. Wash any clothes donated to the school for the benefit of the students such as coats, hats and gloves. Wash any jerseys and other differentiating vests worn by the students during P.E. classes.
This change was discussed with the co-chair of the district grant committee and approved via email.
