Project Description Country: USA Location: Gilbert, Arizona Total Budget: $9,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Student Dictionaries will be labeled with Four Way Test and presented to each third grader in all Gilbert Public Schools and some Mesa Public Schools, plus some Gilbert Private Schools selected by private donors. Gilbert and Mesa Public Schools do not provide individual dictionaries to students. In third grade, as students transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," dictionaries provide useful classroom tools for new words, plus tables and references of math, sign language, history, geography, chemistry and astronomy. Dictionaries can be used during merit testing to improve scores. Teachers and students love the program. Dictionaries are given in September and October in presentations to each class. This continues a program in existence for over ten years.
