Let me introduce you to the SuperNURDS, a very successful Robotics team from San Pasqual High School. This grant would support the Robotics program allowing students to develop a variety of science, engineering, and business expertise through hands-on experiences. Students on the Robotics Team also network with adults working in science, engineering, among other industries. The Robotics program is unique to San Pasqual H.S. The SuperNURDS is one of the top performing robotic teams in San Diego. Building Robotics enhances learning yet offers no grade or classroom credit. The team willingly sacrifices their free time purely for the growth and experience that the Robotics team offer them.
The SuperNURDS are also active in community service. They provide Robotics clinics throughout San Diego, including running the Boy Scouts Robotics Merit Badge clinic. They participated in summer school programs for students at Mira Costa College.
Their success goes beyond high school. The vast majority of students pursue a high education; the list of colleges and universities they have matriculated to include: Standford, Harvey Mudd, UC Berkely.Half of these students are attending with scholarships.
In order for this program to continue, private funding is essential. San Pasqual High School is a Title 1 school which means 57% of the students are on free or reduced lunches. The Robotics program is offered free of charge to students in order to make it available to all students. I am requesting $4000 from District Matching Grants 2019-2020 and The Rotary Club of Escondido will contribute an additional $4,000.
The grant would be used for building materials and electronic components, non-consumable tools, laptop computers for drive stations, and business team expenses.
