Explore School is a project of the Helena Public Schools in partnership with ExplorationWorks, Helena's non-profit science center. Explore School students are home schooled students in grades 1-8 who enroll in Helena Public Schools for one day a week for the study of science. They attend at the science center in grades grouped 1-2, 3-4,5-6,7-8. The furniture used for Explore School was purchased by ExplorationWorks 10 or more years ago for use in after school and summer camp programs, which serve kids preschool-8. The furniture is old and inflexible. Students need flexible furniture to fit their very different sizes and to allow them to stand during the school day.
Our club proposes to purchase new, adjustable tables and chairs for use in both Explore School and ExplorationWorks programs. We would make the purchases as soon as possible this summer so that summer campers and students returning to school in late August could enjoy the new furniture. During the year approximately 500 students will use the furniture.
Club members will participate in ordering the furniture, tearing down and disposing of the old furniture, and delivering it to a thrift store so it can be reused elsewhere. Members will also help assemble the new furniture and dispose of packaging.
Rotary will be acknowledged by a sign in the classroom--perhaps a sign printed by a 3D printer.
