Project Description Country: USA Location: Scottsbluff/ Gering, NE Total Budget: $1,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Provide 4 Free Libraries in the communities of Scottsbluff and Gering, Nebraska for individuals who don't normally have access to a library. A need has been identified for individuals who can not get to the library or who do not have time to go to the library, to have access to books and reading materials. This project plans to put Little Free Libraries in areas such as laundromats, waiting rooms of medical offices, and/or low income residential areas of our community. Our rotary club will work with the local librarians to address the specific areas of town that will best serve our communities. By making reading materials available in areas where individuals already are, the individuals are more likely to read. Project funds would be used for the purchase of materials to make the little free library structures and some books to help start the collections. Our local high school shop classes would build the little free libraries. The timing of this would depend on when funds would be made available and the schedule of the shop classes, but we hope this would be completed in the 2019-2020 school year. Club members will be involved in working with the libraries to organize this project and select appropriate locations for the libraries. We would also ask our club members to help donate books to start up the initial library collections.
