Summary: Community Garden to provide horticultural education to community individuals and families of Iowa Park, Texas
There is a need in the community to learn how to plant and maintain a healthy garden so that our community citizens can supplement their food supply. Our project will be a facility where people can learn how to do this in their own backyards. The project will start approximately March, 2019 and will end approximately June, 2019. Members of The Rotary Club of Iowa Park will obtain and utilize a plot of vacant land within the City of Iowa Park to create a community garden. The garden will consist of a series of raised beds as well as traditional in-ground beds to be utilized by individuals, families, and other organizations within the community. The purpose of the garden will be two-fold: First, it will help supplement the fresh food supply of those who choose to participate. It will also provide a healthy outdoor activity for each gardener while simultaneously providing horticultural education. Secondly, it will provide an opportunity to improve the beautification of the garden area with appropriate landscaping and public conveniences. Budgetary needs are for the purchase of water storage tank. Estimated cost of one 2500 gallon water storage tank with necessary fittings, hosing, and drip irrigation supplies is $3500.
