Summary: Trauma Relief/Resilience Training program for 10 1st responders to fire in Little Village that took lives of 10 children

Peace in Little Village: Resilience Training for 1st Responders. We propose to teach a Trauma Relief/Resilience Training program to 10 first responders to the fire in Little Village that took the lives of 10 children. It will involve teaching evidenced-based techniques that independent, peer-reviewed, scientific research has shown to reduce the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress. We may also include teachers at Farragut High School where we plan to have our Interact Club. This project will be the pilot for our larger RI global grant for Peace in Little Village and an African American community, which we will submit this year for next school year (total 4 schools & a variety of community organizations). It will build on our previous Peace in Chicago Schools global grant that was completed this year. Rotarians are partnering with International Association for Human Values, Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Department.

Per Pam Brockman, the project is not able to be implemented this Rotary Year due to timing issues with Chicago Fire Department. The Club will return the $1000 DDF to the District for return to TRF. The Club can reapply in 2019-2020. Once the funds are returned to the District, the DGS will close the project.
