The Bensenville/Wood Dale Rotary Coat Drive is held every year in partnership with Bensenville School District 2, the Village of Bensenville and Operation Warm. Bensenville is a community of ~20,000 people with a school district, free/reduced lunch rate of over 70%. Over the past 3 years the community has experienced an increase in both homeless and refugee families. According to school district and census data, the homeless population has doubled in the past 5 years, and the number of children experiencing poverty is above the county average. The Club will source and distribute up to 500 coats, with ~80% of them going to children. With funding from private donations, partner contributions, Rotarian donations, and DDF, the B/W Rotary will purchase/collect the coats. This event will not only be for coat distribution, but it will also serve as the Village's annual toy drive. The event will also bring together other community partners to provide resources and support for families in need.
