Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Torrington

Total Budget: $20,000

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Torrington has a one mile path through town. We are planning to extend the path to 8-10 miles.

There is a great need for our community to have a safe area for running/walking/biking, especially since we have no fitness center. We are the poorest county in the State of Wyoming. We anticipate connecting to the existing one mile path and going along the river and outskirts of town in order to give bikers and runners a distance needed for entire family fitness and providing a scenic route. We anticipate doing the project in sections and spread it over a five year or so timeline. Funds will be used for legal, research, development, and construction. I foresee all 75 members of our club contributing to the hands on aspects of this project by doing concrete work, installing benches, workout stations and planting trees. We should be able to garner funding from other sources (economic development, city, county, Rec board, college, school system, and private donations and fund drives). I see this project being a shining star for the Torrington Rotary Club and having the Rotary Brand all along the trail. We anticipate the first section having funding from the City at $25,000, Economic Development at $25,000, Rec Board at $25,000, and our Rotary Club at $15,000 and District funds at $5,000.

Our project is moving along well with grants in for $25,000 from Recreation Board, $5,000 from Economic Development. We are still waiting to hear from the City and Rotary District Grants. We are planning to start the project late this summer for the first segment.

The Torrington Rotary Club successfully completed the walking path project and held a community-wide groundbreaking on July 15th 2020. The project is featured in the Torrington Telegram (local newspaper). There were 30 members in attendance for the groundbreaking and the project was a joint effort that involved our City and Goshen County Economic Development. The completed walking path is the first phase in a prodigious plan to create a 10-mile loop and thereby create a walkable community.

Thank you for joining the Torrington Rotary Club as we invest in the health and wellness of our community.
