All Children enter school cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally prepared.
In our effort to achieve milestone 1, MBK implemented the Barbershop reading program which the main goal is to introduce reading at a young age. They visited barbershops, hair salons, nails salons and pediatrician offices throughout the community and identified volunteers that were willing to participate in the program. These vendors pledged to display our MBKNewRo boxes of books. The mission and vision of the MBK NweRo was explained. The expectation is that all children will be reading while they are waiting for their hair cut or for their parents and caregivers who were receiving services at any of the locations. They identified over 100 suitable locations but were only able to supply books/boxes to 30 locations due to limited resources.
