Project Description

Country: USA

Location: National City

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: The Rotarians will work with people living in the worst of conditions, working to bridge the gap and transition their life toward an improved future.

How do people wind up living like this? The answers are not simple. Some people struggle with mental illness, alcohol or drug addiction. Others somehow got lost and still haven't found a way back. There are few resources in National City to help those who are homeless. The Rotary outreach will work to establish a relationship with the unsheltered people they meet in the city's parks and canyons. Our goal is to connect those who are living on the street with housing, employment, and other services in San Diego that can end their homelessness. Funds will be used to purchase rolling duffle bags, care packages, food and clothing. Rotarians will work with the Police Department's efforts will help at least a quarter of the 200 or so people who live on the streets of National City. If a homeless person can pack his or her belongings in a bag, it might be easier for him or her to be accepted into a shelter or travel to get services.
