The Community Resource Center {CRC} (formerly Hispanic Resource Center) was founded in 1998 to promote the cultural, economic, educational and professional integration of immigrants to the already established larger community and to advocate for those in need. They aim to provide the tools to prepare new immigrant families to become self-sufficient and active members of the community. The Rotary Club of Larchmont seeks to partner with CRC to provide an extension site of the Amigos Literacy Program.
Thirty-three percent of the children attending the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Schools are of Hispanic origin. The Amigos Literacy program currently exists in the Mamaroneck Avenue School and serves approximately 20 low-income Hispanic children. The program currently has a waiting list of more than 5 children. The program strives to provide bi-lingual books and tutoring services to children that require English As A Second Language educational services. The program trains volunteer to assist children gain mastery of written and oral English. The extension site would be located in the Community Resource Center facility on Centre Avenue, Mamaroneck, NY.
The program would be called "The Amigos Extension Program"
