Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development
Activity Type:
Community Development: Volunteer Services
Summary: Purchase personal care, packaged food items, basic clothing items, and food gift cards, and distribute them to homeless persons and families in the week before Thanksgiving.
Please see attached "District Grant Application - Care Packages".
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
After consulting with officials at Friendship Homeless Shelter, it was decided to distribute care packages consisting of cleaning supplies for homeless persons transitioning to permanent housing, rather than food and clothing care packages. There is an adequate supply of food and clothing, whereas those moving into housing are often confronted with less-than-clean conditions and often lack financial resources to purchase the necessary supplies. No one should have to choose between eating or getting to work and living in clean housing. The project was also changed to a Spring event, rather than Fall. Rotarians are doing the shopping and will assemble the care packages.
