Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Sapello, New Mexico

Total Budget: $4,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Purchase Supplies and equipment for STEAM curriculum. STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)

The supplies are for the 90 plus students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, and special needs students. The focus of the materials and equipment is for STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

I represent the Rotary eClub and Pendaries Lot Owners Association have met with the Administrators and Teachers at Mike Mateo Sena Elementary School. We have lists of all the needs for students, and equipment needed for classrooms, computer lab, science lab and math centers. These lists are being prioritized by greatest need to aid in the STEAM learning.

This school is located in remote Northern New Mexico with little access to technology and cultural experiences. The poverty rate is high, and parents struggle to meet the basic needs of their children. The teachers at this school have been trying to help by purchasing basic supplies for their students, but do not have resources to add to math centers, the computer lab and science lab. These are needed elements in today's education environment.

Being an eClub, our members are based around the world. I am the only member in this remote area. However, I have solicited other Rotarians to help with this project.

We will be doing the research to find the best deals on all equipment and supplies. Once we finalize the lists, and make sure we have used the monies in the best manner possible, all will be ordered and sent to the Pendaries Lots Owners Association. With members of the Lot Owners Association all supplies and equipment will be inventoried and stored until the beginning of the school year. We will deliver said supplies and help set up labs and distribute supplies to the children.

Members of our Rotary eClub support projects through donations. The Pendaries Lot Owners Association holds fund raisers for support of this project. We hope to have the project completed by mid September.

Working together, Rotary, our Lot Owners and the families of this community are building friendships, and a stronger future for the youth.
