The Fairbanks Community Food Bank picks up 2-5 tons of local surplus food each day, and delivers that food in food boxes to those who need it most; our community's most impoverished. All the driving is hard in-town driving with heavy loads. The Food Bank's vehicle needs to be replaced. It is starting to cost more to keep (cost of maintenance and down time) than to trade in for a new vehicle. The Food Bank has been working to collect enough money to purchase a new van outright and this is how the numbers are working today:
Ford Transit F4Z0 350 HD configured as in needed $45,500
Current support for the purchase:
Trade in value 17,000
Grant from Walmart 15,000
Anonymous donor 3,500
The above equals $35,500 and this District Grant would provide the remaining $10,000 to purchase the vehicle. $5,000 from the District would be matched by our Rotary Club with $5,000 to total $10,000.
The Rotary Club of Fairbanks supports the Fairbanks Food Bank with year round food drives and Food Box Packing in July and during the busiest season of Thanksgiving. Our club volunteers approximately 200 hours during these drives. We also purchase Turkeys so that no family goes without a Thanksgiving dinner during our country's most celebrated holiday.
We seek help from the Rotary District and will be happy to provide you with more specifics of the work of the Food bank. The van is used entirely for pick up of local surplus food and delivery of local food boxes. Please go to www.fairbanksfoodbank.org and to theirr facebook page for daily operations information. Thank you for considering our community need.
