The Salmon School garden project provides the students with hands on knowledge in gardening for food production, environmental sustainability, commerce and how to use the food they grow, from seed to table. A majority of the Salmon students rely on food banks for their food and if they learn how to grow, care for and prepare their own food they will be willing to utilize healthier options.
A grant from Rotary would be used for instructional programs during the summer and fall months working with the students in caring for the garden, harvesting and preparing the food they grow.
The Salmon Rotary club will be directly involved with the gardens by helping care, water, weed and anything needed to make the gardens a success.
