Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Total Budget: $5,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: The Lakeside Learning Lab is part of a broader Sand Lake Park Makeover Project intended to connect kids and community to their local place.

This request is for additional funds for Project P-1583. The project is proceeding well through the design phase with the 6th grade students at Sand Lake Elementary School and the landscape architect. Contracts have been let out to break ground in July 2018 with completion in the fall. We were hoping to break ground in early spring but logistically it got pushed back a few months. The Parks Foundation oversees the finances and the Municipality of Anchorage Parks and Recreation oversee the construction. The total project is valued at $40,000.00, the Parks Foundation has committed $20,000.00 which leaves the Sand Lake students to match it with $20,000.00. As of the last report I received $10575.00 has been donated to that goal, this includes the District's $2500.00 and Russian Jack Rotary's $2500.00. An additional $5000.00 from Rotary will go a long way to realize the students goal of an outstanding learning center for students and the community at large, improving the Sand Lake Park, and a fantastic learning experience for these students. I refer you to the original request for this Rotary District Grant P-1583 for complete project details. There will be signs at the completed project recognizing District 5010 and Russian Jack Rotary.
